CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Nightspots in Charleston would have to do more to police their patrons under an ordinance making its way through city council.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that the proposal calls for nightspots to provide security and police the sidewalks in front of their establishments.

They also would have to make sure their parking lots are cleared 30 minutes after the business closes. In addition, any business where music is being played would have to make sure they have closed doors and windows at 11 p.m.

The ordinance comes as city officials become increasingly concerned about unruly crowds in the popular City Market area and in the bar district along King Street.
