Charleston, S.C. (WCIV) — Elise Testone's concert poster now hangs on the office wall inside the Music Unlimited store in Mt. Pleasant.

"I think we will change our slogan to South Carolina where Idols are made," said Chris Holly, the owner of the store.

Holly is Testone's former boss. Last year, Testone was a top ten finalist on the reality singing competition American Idol. This year another Lowcountry singer, Candice Glover, could win the contest.

"I just think there is talent everywhere. It's just the right place at the right time. For some reason, it's just coming out of South Carolina right now in Charleston or the Lowcountry and Beaufort," said Holly.

Holly said to him, it's not a surprise because music is fostered from an early age in the Holy City.

"Here you have a lot of influence from church including with Candice tonight, with a lot of influence of people that sang in the church. So, you start to get into that gospel feel and that really powerful vocal that she has," said Holly.

Holly said he's seen national spotlight shine on Charleston talent before in the 1990s.

Holly, who once toured with Hootie in the Blowfish, said artists will move to places where music is supported.

"You'll start to see people move here just because it is a healthy music scene. I saw that happen in the 90s thanks to our dear friends Hootie and the Blowfish," he said.
