COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- The state's Department of Health and Environmental Control on Monday issued a public order for a North Charleston clinic where they believe three people were diagnosed with Hepatitis B.

Tuesday night, the clinic said it was going to work with DHEC to find a cause to the infections.

"We are surprised and very concerned for our patients," said Chiropractic Physician Cameron Wills of Tri-County Spine.

The company was notified on Friday, according to DHEC.

According to a release from DHEC, all three patients received spinal injections in February with common medications at the clinic.

The state agency's order states the clinic has to immediately stop all invasive procedures while DHEC investigates. The clinic also has to provide records, patient and employee in formation and access to the building, officials said.

DHEC says anyone who received an injection at the clinic on Feb. 7 and Feb. 21 were called Monday night, which included 23 "at-risk patients" who were identified through the clinic's records.

"We have called 18 patients who received treatments on the dates in question," Wills said. "This is very shocking to us. Lab tests have not yet confirmed how these infections were contracted. We are working feverishly with DHEC to scrutinize every element of our procedures. This is perplexing because we use pre-packaged sterile supplies."

Those people being contacted are being asked to go to Northwoods Health Clinic on Northbrook Boulevard to have their blood tested for hepatitis B, C, and HIV.

"We are committed to providing safe, reliable care for the relief of spinal pain. We continue to provide non-invasive care for our patients," Wills said.

Any patient with concerns is invited to call the clinic at 843-225-7746 and speak with doctors.
