Riverdogs slide past Augusta 4-3

AUGUSTA, GA – Claudio Custodio drove in a pair of runs and scored another as the first place Charleston RiverDogs topped the Augusta GreenJackets 4-3 at Lake Olmstead Stadium in South Atlantic League action in a back and forth game.

With the victory, the RiverDogs improve to 31-20 overall and remain in first place in the Southern Division standings. With the loss, Augusta drops to 29-24 and drop to fourth place in the Southern Division standings.

Custodio led the offensive charge for the RiverDogs Thursday night in the leadoff spot. Custodio finished the night 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, a run scored, a double, and a walk. He also reached base on a fielders' choice in the third.

Besides Custodio, chipping in offensively was Danny Oh from the ninth spot in the batting order. Oh was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored. Oh scored the winning run for the RiverDogs in the seventh on Custodio's single.

Charleston starter Cesar Vargas was able to go five innings with three runs allowed but only one earned on just three hits. He struckout three and walked one as well but did not factor in the decision. Vargas was relieved by Dietrich Enns (4-0) who picked up the win. Enns was dominant as he tossed four perfect innings and struckout five.

Augusta got on the board early with a solo homer from Shayne Houck, his first of the season in the second inning. Augusta's other two runs came the very next inning on a two RBI double by Joseph Rapp that scored Charles Jones and Trevor Brown. Jones reached on an error by Jose Rosario and Brown reached on an infield single. Augusta was held without a hit for the final 6.1 innings of the game.

GreenJackets starter Matthew Lujan went six innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He had four strikeouts and two walks on the night. Lujan was relieved by Brandon Farley (3-2) who tossed three scoreless innings in relief and allowed a pair of hits en route to the loss.
