NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- North Charleston police responded to an apartment building on South Kenwood Drive around 12:30 a.m. Friday morning for reports of a shooting.

According to a police report, witnesses told officers that five black men got into an argument in the parking lot and that one of the men pulled out a gun and shot at one of the other
men at close range before driving off in a dark gray car.

Witnesses also said the victim was loaded into a car by his family and taken to Trident hospital.

Witnesses told police the shooter was "about a car width away from the victim and fired off several shots."

After the shots were fired, police said the suspect dropped his hat and got back into the grey car which was parked near the dumpster and described as being a "sporty type vehicle." The other men reportedly ran off on foot.

While searching the scene, police say they found "a white tennis hat," which a witness identified as belonging to the shooting suspect. Next to the hat, police say they found a live .22 caliber Long Rifle round.

Police identify the victim as Davontay Gleaton and say he was shot in the shoulder and groin.

The shooting suspect is described as being a 25-year-old black male, about 5'8" tall, heavy set but fairly fit, wearing a white T-shirt with some print on the front and blue or black long shorts.

If anyone knows anything about the suspects, they are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
