Lockdown lifted for 3 North Charleston schools after shooting in area

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Three schools in North Charleston were put on lockdown because of police activity in the area, according to Charleston School District officials.

Jason Sakran with the CCSD confirms that Chicora Elementary, Malcolm C. Hursey Elementary and Morningside Elementary were on a "yellow," or administrative lockdown.

The lockdown was lifted after a couple of hours.

According to North Charleston police,a shooting happened at Knights Food Store on Rivers Avenue around 8:15 a.m.

A NCPD spokesperson says once inside the store, officers found a male victim, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was taken to MUSC.

North Charleston Police, Charleston County Sheriff's deputies and air support from the CCSO searched the area for the suspects, who are described as two black males wearing dark clothing with their faces covered.

Police continue to investigate and we will update this story as more information becomes available.
