MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Mount Pleasant man was charged with embezzling company funds after police say he racked up thousands of dollars in credit card charges on a company card.

According to Mount Pleasant police, Matthew Person was arrested this week after failing to turn himself in to police despite repeatedly setting up times to do so. Police say he told officers that he was primarily living and working in Greenville now.

A police report states that the owner of a company on Wando Park Boulevard in January accused Person of using the company's American Express card to pay for personal items. The report states Person was fired on Jan. 30.

According to the report, Person used the card to pay for $566 worth of stuff at Hertz Rental, $351 worth of stuff at Lowe's in Mount Pleasant, and $1,128 worth of stuff at Best Buy. He also made purchases at WalMart and Budget Rental Car, the report states.
