COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A committee state senators and representatives is sitting down to iron out differences on South Carolina's $6.3 billion state budget.

A conference committee of 3 members from each chamber is meeting Friday in Columbia.

Both the House and Senate have approved a budget for next year. But there are key differences over money for 4-year-old kindergarten, school buses, infrastructure and pay raises for state workers.

Once the committee settles the differences, the budget goes back to both houses for approval.

Lawmakers adjourned Thursday but return to Columbia later this month to take up the compromise budget which covers spending for the state fiscal year beginning July 1.
