Posted: Updated:

(Charleston , SC ) --Citadel closer Skylar Hunter has been named as a relief pitcher on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team presented by Collegiate Baseball magazine.

Hunter, a graduate of Hanahan High School, earned the closer's job last fall and responded with 13 saves and three wins. He worked in 33 games and threw a total of 35 1/3 innings with 44 strikeouts, an average of 11.21 per nine innings.

The right hander ranked second in the Southern Conference and tied for 20th in the nation in saves. He was the first Bulldog to reach double figures in that category since Link Saunders had a school-record 15 in 2006 and is tied with Donald Morillo (1995) and Randy Corn (2002) for second.

Hunter saved five games in SoCon play and added saves against Western Carolina and Appalachian State in the conference tournament. Of his 44 strikeouts, 24 came via called third strikes, the most for any relief pitcher in the league.

In addition to his spot on the national all-freshman squad, Hunter was a second team All-SoCon choice by the coaches and media.
