NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A suspect led police on a high speed chase Tuesday that ended with another arrest for a former convict.

According to a police report, officers were told that a vehicle matching a suspect vehicle in a recent shooting was seen on Dunlap Street.

The driver of the car, a gray Mustang, refused to stop for police and led them on a chase down Rivers Avenue to Ashley Phosphate Blvd, then on to Stafford Rd.

Police say the suspect went behind the Home Depot and came out on Northwoods Blvd and that's when he bailed out of his car in the Extended Stay Suites parking lot, crashing the Mustang into a parked Chevy truck.

The suspect reportedly ran from the scene to the Ice palace where police saw him throw a "black object" under a bush and a "bag and a lighter" in front of one of the businesses further down the sidewalk.

Police say they recovered the items:

  • a "swisher sweet" package with a clear plastic baggie containing two "off white rock like objects" that tested positive for cocaine,
  • a black 29 round magazine with one gold .40 caliber round inside
  • a .40 caliber black Glock 22 with a gold round in the chamber and
  • gold rounds in the center console of the Mustang

Michael Anthony McNeil, 26, is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, possession of cocaine with intention to distribute and unlawful possession of a pistol.

Police say he isn't allowed to have a gun because of a prior assault and battery with intent to kill conviction.
