Tulsa, Oklahoma -
The Eastern EMSA Division has issued its first medical heat alert of the year for the Tulsa area.
EMSA medics have responded to six patients with heat-related illness symptoms. Two of the six patients were transported to area hospitals in fair condition.
Medical heat alerts are issued if EMSA responds to five or more heat-related calls in a 24 hour period.
Tips from EMSA to avoid heat related problems:
*Pre-Hydration: drink water or electrolyte replacement drinks several hours prior to and during long exposure to heat.
*Wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing
*Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine
*If you don't have air conditioning, find a cooling station or public space during the day.
*Use the buddy system if working outdoors and check on elderly neighbors.
