Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Augusta starting pitcher Chris Stratton stifled the Charleston RiverDogs offense as the GreenJackets won 4-1 Friday night in South Atlantic League play at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in front of 5,014 fans.

The RiverDogs are now 38-28 on the season and remain in second place in the Southern Division. The GreenJackets move to 37-30 on the season and remain in third place in the Southern Division with the victory.

Augusta jumped on top early in the first inning. Jesus Galindo led off the game with a single to center field and then stole his 35th base of the year. With two outs, he then scored on a Shayne Houck single to right and gave the GreenJackets an early 1-0 lead.

Charles Jones extended the Augusta lead in the top of the third with a monster three run homer over the left center field wall. The home run was his third of the season.

In the bottom of the third, doubles by Jake Cave (2-4) and Greg Bird (2-3, walk, RBI) plated Charleston's only run of the game.

RiverDogs starting pitcher Jose Campos (1-2) was relieved in the fifth inning by Brett Gerritse. In four innings of work, Campos allowed four runs on five hits, walked one batter, and recorded three strikeouts en route to his second loss of the season. Gerritse pitched four shutout innings in relief and allowed no runs on one hit and struck out five batters.

Stratton (7-3) pitched six strong innings as the starting pitcher for the GreenJackets before being relieved by Steven Okert. Stratton earned his seventh win of the season as he allowed just one run on six hits and struck out nine RiverDogs batters. Tyler Mizenko entered the game in the eighth inning for a five-out save. In 1.2 innings of work, Mizenko gave up no runs on one hit while striking out one batter as he picked up his 15th save of the season.
