US Sen. Scott to speak at Palmetto Boys' State

Posted: Updated:

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's junior senator is speaking at graduation services for attendees of this year's Palmetto Boys State.

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott is giving the address Saturday at the group's graduation at Anderson University.

Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Scott to the U.S. Senate in January after Jim DeMint stepped down with four years left in his term.

Haley addressed students of both Girls State and Boys State at the Statehouse on Friday following the swearing-in ceremony of the programs' newly elected constitutional officers.

Boys State and Girls State are one-week leadership training programs for rising high school seniors chosen from schools statewide. Attendees create local governments and party platforms and elect their leaders.
