BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man was killed early Monday morning when he ran off the road on Highway 176 and hit a tree.

According to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury, 71-year-old Baron Hancock, of Goose Creek, ran off the road, over-corrected, and then hit a tree on the opposite side of the road.

Hancock was pulled from the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, Salisbury said.

The accident was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner's office. They ruled it an accident.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, officials said. Hancock was not wearing a seatbelt.
