GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) -- St. James Avenue (Highway 176) was shut down for a short time Monday morning after a motorcyclist collided with a taxi cab.

The accident happened in front of the Hess gas station near Vixen Road.

At least one person was transported to the hospital by helicopter. A supplemental report filed the day of the accident listed the biker as being in "a coma and in critical condition."

According to Goose Creek fire officials, the biker landed about 30 yards from the point of impact but was wearing a helmet.

Police said the taxi was turning left from St. James into the Hess Express gas station when he hit the motorcyclist who was unable to stop in time.

According to Goose Creek police dispatch, the road was open back up by around 9 a.m.

The taxi driver, identified as 59-year-old Vincent Shaw, was charged with failure to yield right of way.
