12,000 lose power in Greenville after wire theft

Posted: Updated:

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say someone trying to steal copper wire caused a power outage that left more than 12,000 customers in the dark in Greenville.

Duke Energy officials said they have asked Greenville County deputies to look into the incident that caused the outage Tuesday morning.

The outage left a number of traffic lights out and stores without any way to sell to customers. It took about three hours to get power fully restored.
