GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is preparing to handle traffic issues on the Fourth of July and is warning the public of changes.

For the Murrells Inlet Boat Parade, the Murrells Inlet Public Boat Landing will be closed to foot and vehicle traffic at 4:30 p.m. until the conclusion of the parade.

The dock will only be open to emergency personnel and vessels.

For the 4th of July Murrells Inlet Fireworks display, the GCSO and South Carolina Highway Patrol teamed up on a traffic plan to help people leaving the event.

Traffic on Highway 17 Business will be directed south to Wachesaw Road turning right for Highway 17 Bypass or north to Sunnyside Drive turning left to access Highway 707 and Highway 17 Bypass.

Side streets along Highway 17 Business will be blocked preventing exiting or entering except at Wachesaw Road and Sunnyside Drive.

All traffic on roadways and side streets west of Highway 17 Business will be directed to Highway 17 Bypass.

SCHP toppers will direct traffic at both the Wachesaw Road traffic light and the Sunnyside Drive traffic light. Law enforcement officers will be positioned along the routes to assist the flow of traffic exiting the area.
