GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) -- One Goose Creek woman took it upon herself to have a fundraiser for two men she didn't even know. But she did know they needed help and support.

Victoria Morrell spends her days at Blockbuster but she's also part of the firefighting family.

"My husband is a firefighter for Goose Creek city and I know a lot of firefighters," she said. "We take [advantage of] law enforcement and firefighters sometimes and we don't think about they're here every second of every day for us."

That's why she wanted to help two men she had never met with a fundraiser Saturday at the Goose Creek Blockbuster.

North Charleston firefighter Darin Kingery was injured in June when police said a drunk driver plowed in to him and several others while they were working a car accident.

Colleton County firefighter Jordan Eaddy has been battling an aggressive form of cancer for the last two months.

"My heart goes out to them. It hits home and I pray they have a speedy recovery," Morrell said.

David Greene worked with Eaddy. He called him a fighter. Greene also knew Kingery through past training. He said the firefighting community was grateful Morrell wanted to help.

"Not only the recognition of fire fighters but we're also appreciative for the families of both Jordan and Darin Kingery," Greene said.

Morrell said that was why she made Kingery and Eaddy the honorary benefactors of the fund raiser. She said she felt like they were all family.

"When things happen to them like being killed in a fire, fighting cancer or working a scene and getting hit by another vehicle, we don't think about what their families go through," Morrell said.

The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. It will include food, a sidewalk movie sale, crafts, games, face painting and a jump castle.

Organizers said proceeds will go toward medical bills for the two firefighters.
