Fourth goes off on a high note for Folly

Posted: Updated:

FOLLY BEACH , S.C. (WCIV) – The edge of America had a much more positive Fourth of July compared to last year where it earned less than flattering headlines.

Mayor Tim Goodwin was very proud the day after the holiday about the execution of events at the beach.

"It was nice to see the people come and bring their families, enjoy the beach, enjoy the environment and leaving it like they found it," he said.

While trash wasn't as much of a mess as in years past, brawls and rowdy behavior weren't a problem either. Goodwin says the city planned for months and contributes the success to a few factors, no alcohol, no busing in of people and more patrols.

"The crowds were following the rules and being well behaved," he said.

For the Fourth alone, eight alcohol citations were handed out on the beach.

He says they will continue to monitor the need on a day-to-day basis, and already planning for Labor Day.
