ODOT Predicts Some Holiday Weekend Construction Could Cause Slow Downs

Posted: Updated:

ODOT said construction on the US 169 bridge at the BA Expressway interchange could cause slow downs for holiday travelers this weekend.

"We are asking drivers if they are able to locate an alternate route, to avoid the area if possible," ODOT spokesperson Brenda Perry said.

Perry said crews are performing routine work on the US 169 bridge. It will mean several lane closures on US 169 in both directions and along the BA Expressway. Additionally, travelers driving westbound on the BA Expressway will not be able to exit onto US 169 southbound. That exit ramp will be closed.

These changes go into effect 7 p.m. Friday and will end 5 a.m. Monday. Perry said the work is being done on the weekend to avoid any major work commute delays during the week.

Driver Annette Fox travels that area regularly. She is heading out of town Friday and is relieved to hear the closures will hopefully not impact her Monday morning commute to work.

"I just pray that everybody drives pretty safely and doesn't have road rage, because that's how accidents mainly happen. Everybody needs to be safe during this holiday time," Fox said.

Perry said there will likely be more weekend closures throughout the summer. ODOT hopes to have to have the bridge work completed by the end of summer.
