A Tulsa man was arrested Sunday evening for hitting his girlfriend and threatening to burn down her apartment, police said.

Police were called to an apartment in the 6300 block of W. 11th Pl. for a domestic disturbance around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to a police report, the victim told officers that 28-year-old Robert Helton had slapped and hit her several times while she was holding her 3-month-old daughter.

He then poured gasoline from a gas can in the living room and threatened to burn down the apartment, the report said.

Helton was later found in a dry creek bed and arrested on charges of domestic assault & battery in the presence of a minor, fourth-degree arson, and carrying a weapon.
