HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
Firefighters were able to put out the smoke and flames early Monday morning on Susquehanna Street, but they continue to keep an eye on the scene for hot spots.
The fire department came back several times to put water on hot spots. They found smoldering mattresses in some of the homes and officials decided to conduct fire watches every hour through Monday evening.
Crews even made periodic checks of the structure on Tuesday morning.
The initial fire call came around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Crews had to deal with a strong blaze that spread through seven row homes. A second fire call then came in a few blocks away on Penn Street. Both fires have been ruled suspicious.
Officials are also investigating two suspicious fires that happened over the weekend. Firefighters responded to a blaze Saturday evening on Derry Street and garage fire Sunday afternoon on South 14th Street.
Police are asking people to report any suspicious activity they see in their neighborhoods.
