MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A rainy forecast has delayed plans to launch a weather balloon along the South Carolina coast to raise money for the March of Dimes.
The balloon had been scheduled to launch just after dawn on Friday from Myrtle Beach by Fuel Interactive, a web design and interactive company, and the MyrtleBeach.com web site.
But the forecast calls for cloudy skies and an 80% chance of rain so the flight has been delayed a week until Friday, July 19.
The balloon is expected to take several hours to reach 110,000 feet before descending.
It will capture video of the coast and also have several experiments including what happens to a can of soda in a near vacuum.
The launch will coincide with local fundraising efforts for the March of Dimes.
