Wagoner Health Department Open Again for Residents

Posted: Updated:

Wagoner residents can once again visit the newly remodeled Wagoner County Health Department beginning Thursday afternoon.

After a lengthy remodeling project, the WCHD located at 212 N. Pierce Ave. is available for all residents. The facility is a 9,500 square foot building that includes four exam rooms, an expanded lab services area, a large waiting area, staff office, an Emergency Operations Center and a community meeting room.

“The staff at Wagoner County Health Department is proud of the new facility,” said Health Department Administrator Linda Hattaway. “Our goal in public health is to influence attitudes and behaviors to improve health outcomes.”

Tulsa's Channel 8's community newspaper partner, the Coweta American, reported that funding for the $1 million project came through Wagoner County ad valorem taxes. Operational funds include a mix of federal, state and local dollars.

“To accomplish this, we provide health services and programs but also offer education on diet, physical activity and quitting tobacco use with an overall goal of social change,” Hattaway continued. “The updated, larger office is an asset to the community to help achieve these goals.”

The health department will host an open house of the newly remodeled Wagoner office Thursday, Aug. 22 from 5-6:30 p.m. The event will be held in association with the Wagoner Chamber of Commerce and include a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“Tim Kelley, James Hanning and I are extremely pleased to have been involved in improving the availability of health services to Wagoner County,” said District 2 Commissioner Chris Edwards. “With Wagoner County being the second fastest growing county in Oklahoma, the health department employees took action to meet the challenges and needs of our citizens. The remodeled WCHD office is an achieved goal for them.”

Some of the services the new facility offers range from food handlers permits to immunizations and emergency preparedness, according to the Coweta American's report.

Services in the Coweta office are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Call 918-486-2845 to learn more.
