CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – More than 100 people attended a rally seeking justice in Trayvon Martin's memory in Marion Square on Monday.

The rally followed Saturday's news of a Florida jury who returned a not guilty verdict for the second degree murder charge against George Zimmerman in the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges including manslaughter which was also presented to the jury. After the verdict was read, many people outside the courthouse and across the country showed a range of emotions.

At the downtown rally, people let their feelings about the verdict be heard.

"Zimmerman was a murderer," said Jerome Smalls. "He killed a 17-year-old child who went to the store for Skittles and tea - walking home with no weapon."

No one group took credit for organizing Monday's event, citing social media as helping to spread the word about the event.

Representatives from the local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. chapter also attended the event.

Dot Scott, the chapter's president, said racial profiling needs to end.

"We've been hollering about profiling. We've been having meetings. We've been trying to get people to come out and I get a lot of calls," she said.

The Charleston NAACP will hold a news conference on Tuesday in response to the not guilty verdict.
