Local athlete selected to 2013 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game Roster

Posted: Updated:

BALTIMORE, Md. (Under Armor Inc.) – Under Armour, Inc., the Baltimore, MD-based leader in sports performance apparel, footwear and accessories, today  announced the addition of Grant Holmes to the roster for the 2013 Under Armour® All-America Baseball Game, powered by Baseball Factory. The game will be played at Wrigley Field on Saturday, August 24th at 1:30 p.m. CST and air live nationally on MLB Network. The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game showcases 36 of the best high school players, competing in an American vs. National team match-up.  The players are selected by a committee of Baseball Factory scouts.

Grant has big velocity from an extremely quick arm. His fastball sits in the mid 90s and has heavy sink. He has a strong lower half and the type of durable build that one can envision throwing quite a few innings as a starter at higher levels.  His breaking ball is a hard downer that is a swing-and-miss pitch and he also has an advanced feel for his change. Grant is committed to the University of Florida.

"Grant has impressed our scouts with an impressive three-pitch mix that includes a fastball in the mid 90s with great movement," said Steve Bernhardt, Chairman of the Under Armour All-America Game Selection Committee & Executive VP of Baseball Operations at Baseball Factory.  "We are excited to see Grant showcase his talents this summer on MLB Network at the Under Armour All-America Game."

The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game is the culmination of a four-day baseball celebration, including a formal workout for Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts and a homerun derby.

Over the past five years, 118 of the 138 draft eligible players from the Under Armour All-America Game were selected in the MLB Amateur Draft including 34 first round picks.  Top players that went on to sign professional contracts in 2012 include Byron Buxton (2012 No.2 Overall Pick, Minnesota Twins); Kevin Gausman (2012 No.4 Overall Pick, Baltimore Orioles); Addison Russell (2012 No.11 Overall Pick, Oakland Athletics); Gavin Cecchini (2012 No.12 Overall Pick, New York Mets); Nick Travieso (2012 No.14 Overall Pick, Cincinnati Reds); Deven Marrero (2012 No.24 Overall Pick, Boston Red Sox); Styker Trahan (2012 No.26 Overall Pick, Arizona Diamondbacks); Clinton Coulter (2012 No.27 Overall Pick, Milwaukee Brewers); Lewis Brinson (2012 No.29 Overall Pick, Texas Rangers); and Ty Hensley (2012 No.30 Overall Pick, New York Yankees).
