SC Ports Authority to review raising dredge dikes

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina State Ports Authority is scheduled to get an update on cargo numbers and will deal with a resolution to raise the dikes of its dredge spoils area so they can handle more silt.

The authority board meets on Tuesday in Charleston.

Last month, the board approved a $123 million capital spending plan for the new fiscal year that began on July 1. That budget includes about $29 million for the agency's new inland port in Greer.

The inland port is scheduled to open in September and will provide a direct rail link to the Charleston port facilities. It's also expected to reduce the number of tractor-trailer trucks traveling on busy Interstate 26 between the Upstate and the coast.
