Kids get schooled on skating during Stingray Day

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Tuesday was Stingray Day for kids at the Carolina Ice Palace.   Rays head coach, Spencer Carbery spent the afternoon with former players teaching children how to ice skate.

The scene and feel of the rink was much different than you would expect on a July day in the Lowcountry.  The kids that came were decked out in long-sleeved shirts and jackets.

Former Stingray Pierre-Luc O'Brien said it was great to get back on the ice.   "When they fall you know, it's 'ah it's so hard,' well get up and keep going," said O'Brien.   "That's the lesson for today you have to get up and keep going whether or not there is adversity.  Get up and keep going."

O'Brien said things down here in South Carolina are much different then his prior home in Canada, because most kids don't have access to ice rinks.   He said he felt honored to be part of Stingray Day.
