HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley is scheduled to visit the South Carolina coast to talk with state and local officials about the long-needed dredging of the Harbour Town Yacht Basin and other waterways at Sea Pines Plantation.

It's been almost decade since the last dredging and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued the final permits for a new project earlier this month.

The South Island Dredging Association, made up of boat owners and Sea Pines residents, has begun soliciting bids from contractors. State and federal regulators would have to approve the choice of the dredging company.

Permits allow the work from Nov. 1 through April 30.

Officials hope the dredging can be finished by next year's RBC Heritage golf tournament so large yachts can again call at Harbour Town.
