What is it? Mystery lights over IOP have some scratching heads

Posted: Updated:

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCIV) -- Strange lights above Isle of Palms on Wednesday night some people wondering what exactly they saw.

According to a viewer, a single bright light was seen darting around the sky around 10 p.m. Wednesday off the short of Isle of Palms between 30th and 31st streets.

Witnesses said the light was yellow and orange.

In a cellphone video sent to ABCNews4, a light can be seen in the distance. Viewers said the light appeared three times over the course of an hour. Each time it made several sharp, angular flights and disappeared.

Whatever the unidentified flying object was, it made for an interesting night on Isle of Palms.

The National Weather Service office in Charleston reported it had several weather balloons in the air near Givhans Ferry on Thursday, but when asked if the same balloons were near Isle of Palms the night before, the agency said it was not possible based on wind direction.
