Group discussing spending cuts at Savannah River

Posted: Updated:

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - Officials from the U.S. Department of Energy are in South Carolina this week to discuss spending cuts at the Savannah River Site.

The nonprofit SRS Community Reuse Organization is scheduled to host a public forum Thursday at the Aiken Technical College Amphitheater.

Community Reuse Organization executive director Rick McLeod says Savannah River has a big impact on the communities around the 310-square-mile site.

McLeod says the Energy Department representatives are expected to discuss the impacts of funding cuts and give an overview of the Obama administration's fiscal year 2014 budget.

The public is invited to attend the meeting.
