MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corp. has proposed spending $60 million over the next 15 years to help attract business and industry to the Grand Strand.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that the plan released Tuesday calls for about $40 million to be used to create industrial sites in Horry County. The rest would be devoted to recruitment efforts.

Officials say the plan could return $450 million in investment and create more than 4,000 jobs.

The corporation says some of the money could come from either a tax increase or extending a current tax that funds new roads.

Other possibilities include working with the state Department of Commerce as well as working with commercial developers or the federal government.
