Confronting a suspicious man in an alley could end with a brick to the head

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police responded to the area of Meeting and Huger streets Wednesday after a man said he was hit in the head with a brick.

According to the police report, the victim said he was walking to his car on King St. near Columbus St. when he saw a black man dressed in an orange reflective vest and a blue hard hat "acting suspiciously" next to a line of parked cars.

The victim said he confronted the man who then turned and hit the victim with a brick before running off.

The victim suffered a bruise on his forehead and a 2-inch cut behind his left ear.

Officers said they up with the suspect, still wearing the hard hat, carrying a paper bag with the orange vest and the brick inside.

Malcolm Fletcher, 43, is charged with assault and battery in the second degree.
