Severe Storms Overnight Leave Midtown Residents Cleaning Up

Posted: Updated:

It may not have been a tornado, but the severe thunderstorms that rolled through the Tulsa metro overnight, left their mark. Neighborhoods throughout midtown saw extensive damage. One family's home on South Detroit Avenue had a tree fall right through the middle of their house. And for other residents in the neighborhood, the clean-up started bright and early.

Residents like Samantha Christensen, who is relatively new to Oklahoma weather, experienced the wrath of this summer storm, first hand. "We woke up in the middle of the night, just with wind and rain like crazy and it just progressively got worse."

Christensen was fortunate, but down the street, her neighbors were not so lucky.

Some neighbors even came together to help each other get the debris cleared away.

For Christensen, the experience has given her a crash course on Oklahoma weather and what it is capable of.

"Definitely, my first big storm and it has been a shocker, what the damage can do here," said Christensen.

The city will begin debris removal on Monday, July 29 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. They are asking residents with storm debris to bundle it in 4 feet or smaller sections to make for easier removal. They also request that cars are parked off streets and away from the curbs.

They'll get started at 8 a.M. And continue until 5 p.M. Through the rest of the week.
