Mt. Pleasant native makes home debut for Riverdogs

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Players never know where the long and winding path of minor league baseball may take them. Wando High grad and former CofC outfielder Daniel Aldrich is living that journey.

"It's definitely a grind," said Aldrich. "You never know what'll happen. People are hurt all the time, they make moves a lot. I've gone from Staten Island to Tampa to here."

He struggled a bit in rookie ball, but did get to live the big city life a bit in Staten Island.

"I spent a lot of time at the field but did make my way into the city a few times. It was pretty neat, never had been there before," he said.

Home is where the heart is for the kid who grew up watching the Riverdogs who is now sleeping in his own bed while playing for them.

"I didn't leave the house yesterday; I stayed there all day. It was real nice," he said.

You'd think that along with play at home comes hometown pressure.

"I wouldn't say that," said Aldrich. "I've played here in high school, college and now as a pro. I've had family watching me play all the time. It won't be any different, I'll have a lot of friends and family here tonight and I'm pretty pumped."

He's pumped, but hoping to climb the ladder and not be home for long.
