JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIV) -- A Charleston man was killed early Saturday morning in a small Jacksonville, Ill., suburb, according to ABC affiliate WICS.

WICS ABC20 is reporting that 70-year-old William McElhaney, of Charleston, was stabbed several times by a relative. Police have arrested 48-year-old Robert Heitbrink, the station reported.

Officials on Monday said McElhaney was Heitbrink's ex-stepfather.

In bond court on Monday, Heitbrink was charged with three counts of first-degree murder. His bond was set at $1 million. He is due back in court Aug. 20, WICS reported.

The incident happened at an Ivy Wood Drive home. WICS reports that efforts to save McElhaney's life were made, but he died a short time later at Passavant Area Hospital.

Police have not told WICS reporter Kimberly Howard there was a motive for the killing. Police did say there were other people in the home at the time of the stabbing, but there is no word on who they are or what details they may have provided investigators.

A police report says an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Bloomington, Ill.

The murder is the first for the Jacksonville community since 2009 and the first ever for the neighborhood.
