School officials hope new district map is final

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- As the start of a new school year draws near, officials in Mount Pleasant are confident new district zoning lines will be finalized and take effect in the next few years.

The highly debated rezoning efforts specifically focus on the north area of Mount PLeasant, where many of the schools face overcrowding issues every year.

School officials say the lines are subject to change, but they expect them to remain intact.

The school board has prepared a fully interactive map that allows residents to type in their addresses and find out where their children will be going to school.

While many parents may be gathering those back to school supplies now, health officials are urging people to remember the required shots.

This year all 7th grade students in South Carolina's public schools are required to get a whooping cough vaccine.

Students in Berkeley and Dorchester counties will go back to school Aug. 19. Charleston County students start back two days later on Aug. 21.

The shot is not just for students. Health officials say people who have not been vaccinated in the last 10 years should have the shot as well.
