CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two Charleston County schools will receive grants to operate a community learning center for students before and after school and during the summer.
The school district announced Wednesday that North Charleston and Burke high schools will receive up to $200,000 per year for up to four years to set up the centers. The federal grants come from the No Child Left Behind law.
The learning center program began 14 years ago for school districts. That has since changed to allow for public and private schools as well as faith-based organizations to apply.
