CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) - A plane crashed Sunday afternoon in a Horry County subdivision, killing three people onboard.

The crash happened off Dunn Shortcut Road, in the WoodCreek subdivision in Conway around 1 p.m.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler says all three people aboard the plane died in the crash. Fowler identified them as 39-year-old James Major, of Conway, 42-year-old Kenneth Piuma, of Myrtle Beach, and 16-year-old Donald Dale Becker, of Conway.

Fowler says Major is believed to have been the pilot.

A neighbor told WPDE NewsChannel 15 after he heard the crash he went outside to see what was happening. He saw smoke and fire then called 911.

"The aircraft was attempting to return to the Conway-Horry County Airport shortly after departure when the accident occurred," said Kathleen Bergen with the Federal Aviation Administration.

The aircraft that crashed was a Beechcraft Baron, according to Bergen.

Lt. Selena Smalls with Conway Police says Dunn Shortcut Road will be closed indefinitely so crews can investigate the crash. Police want people to avoid the area.

A crew with the National Transportation Safety Board is on their way to the scene. They will be handling the investigation.

Horry Electric spokeswoman Penelope Hinson says about 200 customers are without power in the area due to the plane crash. However, Horry Electric crews are not able to work too close to the scene to restore power as crews investigate the plane crash.

Hinson says because of the investigation, they do not have an estimated time for power to be restored.
