Clowney returns to practice

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC) – The University of South Carolina football squad held its fourth practice of the fall camp on a beautiful Monday evening in Columbia. The squad worked out for over two hours in helmets and shoulder pads at the Bluff Road practice fields.

Junior All-America defensive end Jadeveon Clowney returned to practice after sitting out much of Sunday's practice. He tweaked his knee during Saturday's practice.

"He just got banged up a little bit, but he's fine," said defensive line coach Deke Adams. "He had a great day."

Sophomore linebacker Cedrick Cooper dislocated his left elbow during Monday's practice. He is expected to be sidelined a few days.

"They're saying it's not that bad," said linebackers coach Kirk Botkin. "We'll check and know more tomorrow." Although Cooper is expected back within a week, Botkin said it gave an opportunity for some of the younger players to make an impression. "We have some young guys who need reps. The next guy has got to be able to step up. You never know when your number is going to be called to step in and make a play. We'll watch film and evaluate those guys."

Former Carolina quarterback Blake Mitchell and wide receiver Moe Brown were on hand to watch tonight's practice.

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Tuesday night. It will mark their first practice in full pads. The practice is closed.
