GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) -- Goose Creek police have given the all-clear after the Walmart on St. James Avenue was evacuated.

Officials were investigating a suspicious package.

Customers called the newsroom earlier in the morning to say police would not let them inside.

Captain Jon Grainger with GCPD said officers were dispatched around 7:30 a.m. and advised that a box was seen in a shopping cart near the grocery entrance and that "ticking" sounds could be heard from within the box.

Walmart management ordered the evacuation of employees and customers.

The parking lot was cordoned off and the Charleston County Bomb Squad was on scene, and evaluated the situation.

Fire and medical services from the City of Goose Creek Fire Department were notified and put on standby.

Employees were let back in just before 10 a.m.

We will update this story as more details become available.
