NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- More than 40 Airmen will be returning this week to the Lowcountry from the 38th Aerial Port Squadron after a six-month deployment to Afghanistan.

The Air Force Reserve Aerial Port Squadron members were deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan. While there, the group was responsible for cargo and passenger operations within the region.

Officials say their duties included loading and unloading cargo and managing troop movements in and out of surrounding countries.

On Thursday, 15 Airmen are expected to return around 10:50 a.m. with a wave of others returning throughout the week.

They will be welcomed home by family, friends, and other military members.
