HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - A Hilton Head Island woman is still in a bit of shock after she was attacked by an alligator.

Fifty-year-old Tamra Shattuck told The Island Packet of Hilton Head (http://bit.ly/14NOKww ) she was walking her two dogs along a lagoon Wednesday when she heard a loud splash.

She turned to see the 8-foot gator coming for her and her dogs and her first impression was seeing a lot of teeth.

Shattuck slipped and the gator chomped down on her ankle. Then she kicked the creature with her other foot and it let go and returned to the lagoon. Shattuck suffered some small puncture wounds but nothing more serious.

She says she is sad the gator had to be destroyed just for doing the things that alligators do.
