Iron Gate To Launch Kids Helping Kids

Posted: Updated:

Over the past 5 years, the number of people fed at Iron Gate has increased 300 percent. Each day they serve close to 900 plates, and they feed people every day of the year. This fall, they're launching a new program which will encourage area youth to participate in the mission. It's called Kids helping kids.

"It's a way for families or school organizations or church organizations to get young volunteers involved. To teach them about hunger in our community. To teach them about service and compassion. We encourage them to come in and serve," said Meghann Ray of Iron Gate.

"This gets the younger one involved, and this unites our city. We want kids to work together no matter what part of town you live in, and this will help us improve our community, and shows that we care about out city," said Tulsa city councilor Jeannie Cue. She's bringing her three grandchildren with her to volunteer at the center this week.
