HARLEYVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley and state agricultural leaders are touring a Lowcountry farm to see damage caused by this summer's heavy rains.

Haley is joining state Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers on Monday at a Dorchester County farm to survey the damage as the state seeks a disaster designation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Weathers' agency says many farmers are dealing with damaged acres and crop losses caused by the excessive rains.

Also on the tour will be Larry McKenzie of the South Carolina Farm Bureau and Harry Ott, state director of the USDA's Farm Service Agency. The former minority leader of the South Carolina House resigned from the Legislature in late June to take the White House appointment.
