DNR: Girl, 11, bitten by fox on way to bus stop

Posted: Updated:

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- An 11-year-old girl was bitten by a fox Monday morning as she walked to her bus stop.

According to Department of Natural Resources officials, the fox came out from under a porch of a home in the Pineville community. The girl's grandfather, who saw the attack, shot and killed the fox.

The girl had two small puncture wounds on her leg. She was taken to a nearby hospital, treated and released.

Officials say the Department of Health and Environmental Control will run tests on the fox to determine whether it was rabid.
