LADSON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that happened around 12:45 a.m. Thursday.

According to Trooper Bob Beres, the driver at fault is employed with the North Charleston Police and was charged with driving under the influence.

Beres said a 2012 Chevy 4-door was waiting to turn left on Ladson Road when a Chevy pickup driven by 27-year-old Stanley Tucker came off Ladson onto Highway 78 towards Charleston Southern University.

According to Beres, that's when Tucker struck the other vehicle on its side. The driver of the 4-door was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.

North Charleston Police Department spokesman Spencer Pryor said Tucker has been employed with the department since 2007. He is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the DUI case.

Tucker was released on a personal recognizance bond Thursday morning after the judge noted that he had no prior record.

We will update this story as more details become available.
