NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- In the face of disaster, the familiar symbol of aid is always present and now they need you to don the red cross as a volunteer.

The Red Cross is holding classes over the next two months to train people to help those who are in need of disaster relief.

The Red Cross needs volunteers trained to help in the community in the event of a large scale disaster such as a hurricane or respond to smaller cases like home fires and floods.

All classes are free and open to the public.

Anyone interested in becoming a Red Cross volunteer should visit www.redcross.org/carolinalowcountry and click on 'volunteer' to register for one of their upcoming classes.

Classes are held:

  • Tuesday, September 10, 6pm-9pm
  • Saturday, September 21, 9am-noon
  • Tuesday, October 8, 6pm-9pm
  • Thursday, October 19, 9am-noon

All classes will be held at the American Red Cross Carolina Lowcountry Chapter at 8085 Rivers Ave., Ste. F, North Charleston, SC.
