DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) — South Carolina's native sons reunited Friday night for a very worthy cause, taking the stage for their annual Homegrown concert at Family Circle Stadium on Daniel Island.

They performed their classic hits in front of a sold out crowd.

"I don't know what to say about that. We have a huge fan base and we're so thankful for it," said band member Mark Bryan.

They're humbled by their fans' big hearts. Every year, hundreds of concertgoers donate school supplies to children in need throughout Charleston County.

"People want to find a way to give back and if you give them an avenue like this and say 'Hey come to a rock concert and bring some school supplies' and they're all over it," said Bryan.

This includes die-hard Hootie fans like Laura Martin.

"We brought markers, crayons, and black-and-white binders," she said. "I'm a single mother, so I would have wanted that when I was in need."

For volunteers collecting the items, the donations get larger every year.

"It is allowing all kids to be prepared for school and what I mean by that is that kids are receiving book bags, school supplies, dental exams, medical exams, and the list goes on and on and on," said Sheila Grier, with the Charleston County School District. "We started off probably serving about 600 students and now we have 2,500 students in nine schools that we are serving."

As long as the fans are willing to donate-band members say they'll continue to reunite, and who knows, possibly even more.

"This is a tradition," said Bryan. "And I'd love to see us make another album and get on tour again at some point-so we'll see."

On Saturday, the collected school items will be distributed at Burke High School.
