Rogers falls in straight sets at the US Open

NEW YORK (WCIV) -- Lowcountry native Shelby Rogers lost her opening round match at the U.S. Open tennis championships to Caroline Garcia of France 6-3, 6-2.

"She served well today, I think I only had one break point the whole match, she was spot on and played really well," said Rogers of the match.

For the 20-year-old Rogers this was her second appearance in the U.S. Open main draw, losing in the first round back in 2010.

"Sometimes your opponent just plays better -- I have to commend her for that, and now I have to refocus and get ready for doubles," she said.

Rogers is currently ranked 132nd in the world, Garcia is ranked 76th.

Following doubles play, Rogers will travel to Quebec for an indoor tournament.
